About the Role
The Company is in search of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead its mission of protecting, managing, and advocating for a significant national scenic trail. The successful candidate will be a seasoned executive with a minimum of 10 years' experience in leading complex, multi-stakeholder organizations, and must demonstrate a strong passion for the mission. Key responsibilities for the CEO include strategic leadership, fundraising, external relations, operational and financial stewardship, and board partnership. The role demands a proven track record in fundraising, including the ability to cultivate and secure major gifts, and experience in government relations and policy work. The CEO will also be responsible for fostering a positive, engaged, and inclusive culture across a distributed workforce and must be adept at managing a geographically and culturally diverse staff and volunteer network. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, with a preference for an advanced degree in a related field, and must embody the values of the organization, including integrity, respect for volunteer culture, and a focus on conservation outcomes. Experience in nonprofit governance and a strong background in board development are essential. The role is pivotal in scaling philanthropic revenue, elevating the organization's national voice, and strengthening cooperative management agreements with federal and state partners. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to set the strategic direction, evaluate performance, and ensure strong governance. A background in environmental policy, nonprofit leadership, or natural resources is highly valued, and experience living, working, or hiking along the national scenic trail is a significant advantage.
