About the position

The Director of Flight Training is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of flight training programs within the airline. This role requires a strong blend of aviation expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Duties And Responsibilities

The Director of Flight Training formulates and administers training policies, programs, and schedules in accordance with company policy, FAR's and industry standards to ensure safety and proficiency of Ameriflight flight crewmembers, and is responsible for the quality, effectiveness, and completeness of all pilot training programs.
Coordinates with the VP of Flight Operations and the Chief Pilot to determine training needs.
Develops and organizes training manuals, reference library, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
Coordinates established training courses with technical and professional courses offered by vendors other flight training organizations.
Interacts with Training Captains to accomplish maintenance of the company's operating standards, policies and procedures.
Maintains records to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, performance of instructors and monitor progress of trainees.
Compiles data and analyzes past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify funds requested.
Keeps informed on new developments, methods, and techniques in the flight training field.
Performs other duties as assigned by Vice President of Flight Operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Director of Flight Training Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Flight Training Department
Manages subordinate supervisors, including Program Managers, Training Captains, Flight and Ground Instructors.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies, industry standards and regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing concerns and resolving issues.

Education, Certification & Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
Commercial Pilot Certificate, with airplane single and multi-engine land, and instrument ratings required. ATP preferred.
Current CFI, CFII and MEI required.
1,500 TT, 200 Multi, 500 XC, 100 night, 100 instrument (combined) with at least 50 hours in aircraft required.
Current 1st or 2nd class medical preferred.
Previous 121, 135 and turbine experience preferred.
Educational experience preferred.

Additional Skills

Must be an effective communicator and be comfortable working in a team environment.
Must be able to effectively present information to students, executive management, board of directors and public groups.
Must be able to respond to common inquiries from students, management, and regulatory agencies.
Must be able to read, write, analyze, and interpret common industry and technical and regulatory documents.
Must be familiar with MS Office suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
